Scottish quartet Idiogram continues to push musical boundaries with their latest release, Butcher’s Parcel. Following their well-received debut single Twilight Sleep, this track offers a dynamic glimpse into their upcoming album, Reunion of Broken Parts.
Butcher’s Parcel opens with rising, shifting synths, layered with intricate panning and repetition that build in intensity before giving way to a fluid drum groove. A rich bassline anchors the arrangement, leading to an ambient interlude that transitions back into the groove, now elevated by striking guitar licks and textured piano overlays.
The track epitomizes Idiogram’s approach to blending contrasting elements. Synths and off-beat rhythms meet organic guitar lines, creating a soundscape that balances the digital and the natural, the modern and the traditional. It’s part dance track, part classical prelude—two musical ideas coexisting and competing for space.
Known for their disregard for strict genre conventions, Idiogram draws from post-prog, rock, electronic, ambient, and classical influences. Their music navigates between moments of dramatic intensity and quiet introspection, showcasing a shared ethos of experimentation and collaboration.
Reunion of Broken Parts, five years in the making, promises to be a richly textured debut album. It reflects the band’s experiences and shared values, woven together through field recordings, soundscapes, and ambitious arrangements. With Butcher’s Parcel, Idiogram invites listeners into their compelling, unpredictable, and emotionally resonant world.
The band comprises Lesley Crawford (Piano, Keys), Ali Gillies (Bass), Ali Kilpatrick (Guitar), and Keith Kirkwood (Drums).
