Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards Share Alt-Rock Driven Single “Already Over (Smile Honey)”

Oklahoma City’s genre-crossing outfit Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards return with “Already Over (Smile Honey)”, a dynamic new single that blends alt-rock with the group’s signature flair for theatrical, genre-blending production.

Opening with a piano motif that quickly gives way to distorted guitars, the track establishes its energy early on. The groove settles into a solid pop-rock rhythm, led by expressive vocals and polished instrumentation. It’s a concise and well-arranged production, offering a balance between melodic hooks and rawer edges.

Lyrically, the song explores the disconnect between public perception and private reality, particularly in the age of social media. “There’s a strange parasocial element that can come along with being a performer,” explains frontman Johnny Manchild. “People think they know you because they follow you online, but they have no idea what’s actually going on.” The track reflects this tension through a combination of biting lyrics and upbeat delivery—masking discomfort with a smile, as the title suggests.

“Already Over (Smile Honey)” arrives ahead of the band’s upcoming 2025 tour, which kicks off on March 27 at The Roxy in Los Angeles. Known for their high-energy live shows and a sound that spans emo, jazz, funk, and alt-rock, Johnny Manchild and the Poor Bastards continue to push boundaries while building a growing international following.
