Kat Eaton, the Welsh-born soul artist now residing in Yorkshire, has unveiled her latest single, “Addicted,” the second release from her upcoming album, ‘Honestly,’ set to drop on March 22nd, 2024, via Kartel Music Group. The track kicks off with a groovy drum break, accompanied by Kat’s emotive vocals and solid piano chords, culminating in a soulful chorus bolstered by excellent backing vocals and a grandiose band arrangement.
In “Addicted,” Kat lyrically delves into the idea of being infatuated with something that repeatedly inflicts pain, whether it’s a person or, in her case, the challenging music industry. Her lyrics reveal a profound connection to her craft, explaining, “I actually wrote it about music and being in an industry which can make or break your spirit from one moment to the next. But regardless, I have to keep making music. I care about it too much and am too passionate about it to ever stop.”
Kat Eaton has earned her reputation as one of the hardest-working and most talented artists in the industry. She has graced stages across the UK and Europe, sharing the spotlight with renowned acts like Jools Holland, Paul Carrack, The Teskey Brothers, Marc Broussard, and Mamas Gun, while also selling out numerous headline shows. Furthermore, she has collaborated with notable artists such as Caro Emerald, Ruby Turner, and Roberta Campos, expanding her reach across international airwaves in Holland, Belgium, France, and Italy.
Kat’s journey into music began in her childhood, transitioning from her birthplace in Cardiff to Sheffield. Influenced by the Spice Girls, she describes herself as a “painfully shy child” who felt like an outsider. However, a pivotal moment at the Victoria Quays Music Festival, where she witnessed Sheffield Blues legend Frank White perform, changed the course of her life. Kat recalls, “Seeing Frank almost writhing in agony performing Blues/Soul and Rock & Roll had a profound effect on me. I could see his body was just a vessel for something more important… If I could make someone else feel the same way that he made me feel that day, I would die happy.”
Driven by a desire to evoke the same emotions as her idol Frank White, Kat explored her father’s record collection, immersing herself in the music of legends like Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, and more. It was on this musical journey that she crossed paths with her songwriting collaborator and partner, Nick Atkinson, sparking an instantaneous musical chemistry.
In 2021, Kat released her critically acclaimed debut album, ‘Talk To Me,’ garnering support from BBC Radio 2, 6Music, and KCRW. Her sophomore album, ‘Honestly,’ set for release in March 2024, is a masterful fusion of Soul, Classic R&B, Blues, and Gospel, a testament to her growth and musical evolution. Kat herself states, “After Frank White died, Nick and I went back to our roots and decided to scratch that Blues/Gospel itch that Frank had given us a taste for. Hopefully, we’ve created something that he’d be proud of.”
In “Addicted” and throughout her career, Kat Eaton demonstrates an unwavering commitment to her craft, a deep connection to her roots, and an unapologetic passion for creating soul-stirring music that resonates with listeners. Her forthcoming album ‘Honestly’ promises to be a testament to her artistic evolution and musical prowess, paying homage to the legends who inspired her while crafting a sound uniquely her own.
