Bristol-based nu-jazz trio, King Heron, continues to impress with their latest single, “Dew Drops,” offering a distinctive blend of progressive beats and modern jazz mentality. From the very beginning, the track draws you in with captivating arpeggios, accompanied by a funky drum loop and groovy guitar riffs. The production skillfully weaves reverse flourishes, delicate rhythms, and a funky bassline to keep the energy moving effortlessly throughout the piece. The cleverly placed piano breakdowns add further depth to the track, showcasing the trio’s ability to traverse jazz-funk grooves with ease.
“Dew Drops” marks the second single release from King Heron in 2023, displaying their commitment to exploring new sonic territories. The accompanying studio video and short edit with a visualizer video complement the single’s captivating sound, offering a multi-dimensional experience for listeners.
Collaborating closely with producer Patrick Phillips, whose experience includes work at Real World Studios, King Heron infuses electronic music influences into the track’s loopy groove and ruminative soundscape. The result is a fusion of fluttering guitar samples, punchy drums, and an unwavering bassline, creating an infectious and vibrant musical atmosphere.
The band’s year has been filled with noteworthy achievements, including the release of “Stasis” featuring Andrew Neil Hayes, earning praise from influential figures like Tom Robinson and Jazziz Magazine. Their highly acclaimed performance at the Dot To Dot Festival further solidifies their position in the modern jazz scene.
Formed in 2021, King Heron emerged from the friendship of three musicians, each with strong musical personalities and a shared love for exploration, groove, and improvisation. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of music, including funk, jazz, R&B, soul, and modern interpretations of jazz and electronic elements, the trio offers a unique fusion sound that sets them apart in the music world.
