Laura Cahen Unveils Partout: A Delicate Fusion of Love and Chaos

Laura Cahen, celebrated French singer-songwriter and producer, returns with her evocative new single Partout (Everywhere), an intricate exploration of love, loss, and resilience. Set against a backdrop of delicate guitar arpeggios and rising melodies, Cahen’s emotive vocals bring a fragile yet profound depth to this compelling track.

Written in Dieppe, Normandy, Partout draws inspiration from the sea’s vastness and the complexity of human relationships. Its lyrics—playful yet poignant—capture the turbulence of a love story amidst troubled times: “I am the boat that sinks since you’ve gone / the branch that suddenly cracks when the wind leaves,” Cahen sings.

This single is the first glimpse of a larger project born out of Cahen’s creative retreat in Margate, England. There, alongside Mike Lindsay (Tunng & LUMP) and French-British composer Josephine Stephenson, Cahen crafted her forthcoming album. Together, they shaped an intricate soundscape blending analogue instruments, 70s-inspired pop, and French lyrical tradition. The result is a timeless yet forward-thinking approach, reflective of influences like Joni Mitchell, Steve Reich, and Big Thief, while retaining Cahen’s distinctive voice.

Laura Cahen’s music reflects a nuanced worldview. Her songwriting intertwines themes of environmental urgency, personal freedom, and equality, painting vivid portraits of modern life. Drawing on inspirations from literary giants like Margaret Atwood and Virginia Woolf, Cahen builds narratives that are both deeply personal and universally resonant.

With a career spanning acclaimed albums such as Nord (2017) and Une fille (2021), Cahen has become a fixture of the French and international music scenes. Her artistry balances the modern and the traditional, incorporating elements of pop, chanson, and trip-hop to create a sound that feels both fresh and familiar.
