Mason van Kraayenburg’s latest release, Lynx featuring Plural, is the 6th composition from his instrumental music series The Heavenly Scrolls. The track opens with a blend of synth layers and sharp guitar licks, gradually evolving in texture and rhythm. This progression creates an engaging journey through varying moods and energy, adding depth and intrigue to the piece.
The Heavenly Scrolls project, which charts 88 constellations through music, showcases van Kraayenburg’s distinctive approach to composition. Drawing from post-rock and other genres, the album features a wide array of collaborations with talented artists from the global community, Lynx being one such collaboration with Plural from Nova Scotia.
Van Kraayenburg, a self-taught guitarist from Houston, Texas, has been crafting instrumental music since his early teens. His career began with the formation of the experimental band Enloom in 2001, a group that left a significant mark on Houston’s music scene before disbanding in 2015. Afterward, he focused on creating The Heavenly Scrolls, continuing his legacy of innovation.
Throughout his career, van Kraayenburg has pushed musical boundaries, co-founding the progressive rock band Three White Doves and collaborating with artists such as Brother Saturn. His work remains an intricate fusion of genres, with Lynx standing as a vivid example of his ability to merge soulful guitar and thought-provoking composition.
