Yahtzee Brown Explores Romantic Reveries in Take It Back

Take It Back, the second single from Yahtzee Brown’s upcoming debut album You Got This, offers a relaxed yet dynamic indie rock groove. Opening with a rising synth pad, the track transitions into a drum-and-bass-driven rhythm, complemented by reverb-soaked guitar and melodic bass lines that add depth and texture. The understated vocals glide effortlessly over the instrumentation, with organ flourishes adding further richness to the sound as the song progresses.

The track delves into themes of relationships with charming troublemakers and the Romantic ideals of “how things ought to be,” blending introspection with an easygoing momentum. Produced by Emile Millar (Hotel St. Louis Records) and Michael Lockwood (known for his work with Carly Simon and Fiona Apple), the song also features contributions from Supersuckers founding drummer Dancing Eagle, bringing a layered, collaborative energy to the mix.

Set to release on January 17, You Got This captures the essence of cloudy, cosmic Americana, drawing comparisons to the likes of Dr. Dog, Wilco, and the Old 97s. Yahtzee Brown’s songwriting reflects a thoughtful blend of the surreal and the relatable, melding the influences of 60s and 70s classic rock with the nuanced storytelling of modern indie artists like Father John Misty.
