Alberta Cross has unveiled their latest single, “The Thief And The Heartbreaker,” featuring Band of Skulls, a track that reimagines the title song from their 2007 debut album. This collaboration merges Alberta Cross’s Americana-tinged sound with the gritty edge of Band of Skulls, resulting in a moody, blues-infused track that highlights both bands’ strengths.
The song opens with a downtempo drum break, soon joined by a focused bassline and guitar licks that add layers of harmonic depth. As the track progresses, a feedback-laden guitar ushers in a rolling groove, setting the stage for a bluesy, slightly distant vocal. The layered harmonies contribute to a rich, textured sound, while blues guitar licks inject energy and life into the piece.
Frontman Petter Stakee of Alberta Cross reflects on the collaboration, noting the shared history between the two bands, who have crossed paths numerous times throughout their careers. The collaboration with Band of Skulls’ Russell Marsden on this track adds a fresh dimension to the original song, bringing new life to a piece that has remained central to Alberta Cross’s identity.
“The Thief And The Heartbreaker” is part of Alberta Cross’s upcoming reworked album of the same name, which features a variety of musical collaborations. Recorded in Frome, Somerset, at the Bert Jansch studio with producers Ethan John and Dom Monks, the album captures the raw energy and timeless sound that have defined Alberta Cross since their inception.
