Folk-rock Americana singer-songwriter Annie Bacon & her Oshen have released their latest single “Secret Broken Heart” on June 14. This track, with its powerful guitars and Bacon’s lush vocals, draws stylistic comparisons to Fleetwood Mac, The Cranberries, and Brandi Carlile. The song’s rich harmonies and emotive lyrics explore themes of self-sacrifice and concealed pain, encapsulated in lines like, “She’s got a shimmer from a secret broken heart / You can see it if you look at her real hard / She drives around crying in her car / Another earthquake ripping another little scar.” It serves as a poignant reminder that many of us mask our grief, making it difficult for others to truly understand what we’re going through.
“Secret Broken Heart” is part of Bacon’s fourth LP, Storm, also released on June 14. The album delves into deeply personal themes, confronting broken hearts, death, and the loss of identity. Bacon’s storytelling is imbued with the sincerity of folk music, while the raw emotional engagement of rock n roll underscores the album’s powerful narrative. Storm represents a journey through one woman’s most challenging times, offering listeners a mature and intimately honest musical experience.
Annie Bacon & her Oshen’s music is perfect for fans of Courtney Marie Andrews, Fleetwood Mac, Rosali, Carly Simon, Waxahatchee, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Erin Rae. “Secret Broken Heart” is available now on all major streaming platforms.
