Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Bird is set to release her new single “Roy,” the lead track from her forthcoming acoustic EP. The song features a classic folk vibe infused with hints of country, enhanced by captivating vocal harmonies and a rich string arrangement.
“Roy” draws inspiration from the intriguing legend surrounding two iconic musicians, Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley. Bird first encountered this story in a documentary by Orbison’s son, which recounts the close friendship between the two artists. The legend suggests that Orbison intervened to protect Elvis’s legacy by thwarting a plot to steal his body after death. This evocative imagery prompted Bird to explore themes of loyalty, friendship, and the surreal connections that transcend life and death in her lyrics.
Co-written with Ally McErlaine, known for his work with Texas and Red Sky July, “Roy” encapsulates Bird’s ability to weave narrative and emotion into her music.
