Australian indie-folk artist Hazlett has unveiled his new single “I’m Not Ready To Go,” featured on the recently released Goodbye to the Valley Low: Side B EP, now available via Nettwerk. This release completes the Goodbye to the Valley Low project, which was initiated with the first part launched in late 2023.
“I’m Not Ready To Go” showcases lovely acoustic vibes complemented by captivating vocals that draw listeners in. The arrangement is subtle yet effective, allowing Hazlett’s voice and lyrics to take center stage. The track features polished vocal processing that enhances its emotional depth.
The Goodbye to the Valley Low project was recorded in an off-grid cabin in Sweden, where Hazlett explored personal themes and narratives through introspective songwriting. The new EP includes six tracks that, when combined with the earlier release, create a cohesive full-length album. Hazlett’s artistic journey through the cabin reflects a deeper exploration of the questions that arose during his time there.
Opening with “Bones Shake,” the EP delves into themes of coming-of-age and self-discovery, culminating in a chorus that captures the tension between home and the search for something more. Other tracks like “The First Train Home” and “Do You Haunt Me” further examine complex emotions and the intricacies of distance and longing.
With rich arrangements and lyrical introspection, the standout track “Shiver” contemplates life’s choices and the feeling of uncertainty that accompanies decision-making. The EP closes with “Old Salt,” a hypnotic piece that encapsulates Hazlett’s artistic journey over the past year.
Based in Stockholm since 2019, Hazlett has developed a dedicated fanbase, amassing over 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify. His journey has included a variety of musical roles, from being a bass player in a band in Germany to finding his voice as a solo artist. Following the success of his debut album Bloom Mountain, Hazlett has supported notable acts across Europe and North America, establishing himself as a rising star in the indie-folk scene.
With the completion of Goodbye to the Valley Low, Hazlett continues to grow as an artist, drawing inspiration from his surroundings and personal experiences while inviting listeners into his evolving musical narrative.
