Loic J Tuckey’s latest release, “No Greater Love,” offers a potent mix of swampy blues, psychedelic Americana, and rock ‘n’ roll. The track stands out with its energetic yet moody vibe, marked by a powerful vocal performance and a dark, immersive atmosphere. Its rich arrangement features solo elements that evoke the kind of sound you’d be wanting to hear in a dimly lit bar.
The song is a deeply personal tribute to Tuckey’s stepfather, who passed away unexpectedly nine years ago. With lyrics reflecting the profound impact of his stepfather’s death and its effect on Tuckey’s transition into adulthood, the track serves as a form of musical therapy. It expresses the raw emotion of grief and the enduring love he feels, offering a poignant homage in the absence of a physical memorial.
The recording process involved a mix of Tuckey’s home studio work and collaboration with Sheffield-based musicians, including Zebedee C Budworth on percussion and organ, Jim Ghedi on saxophone, and Marcus Cave on double bass. The track was mastered by Mike Montgomery at Candyland Studios in Kentucky.
Influenced by artists such as Tom Waits, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Captain Beefheart, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and Dr. John, Tuckey’s music often blends elements of Americana with cinematic influences, earning him comparisons to Tom Waits with a touch of Ennio Morricone’s Western flair.
