Nathan Haines’s new single “Belo Dia” blends swirling ambience with a 70’s jazz break, featuring soaring synth lines, guitar, and percussion elements. The track embodies a jazz funk vibe with strong Latin influences, highlighted by evocative vocal accents and a vintage, engaging feel. Rachel Clark’s vocals, Jonathan Crayford’s piano and bass, and Chris Franck’s Cuica contributions add depth and texture, creating a soundscape reminiscent of sun-drenched beaches and the joyous spirit of Brazilian culture.
“Belo Dia” is the second single from Haines’s upcoming album Notes on Loop/EMK. The song, co-written with guitarist Leon Stenning during Haines’s recovery from throat cancer, features lush real strings, a vintage 1959 Steinway D grand piano, nylon-stringed guitar, and Haines’s multi-tracked alto flute and soprano saxophone. This deeply personal track reflects Haines’s profound love for Brazilian music and showcases his ability to blend various musical elements seamlessly.
Haines continues to establish himself as one of Australasia’s premier DJs and live performers, collaborating with artists such as Chaos in the CBD, Frank Booker, and Ray Mang. Known globally for his albums Sound Travels and Squire for Hire, Haines’s discography spans over ten albums released on major labels, including Verve and Universal. His upcoming album Notes highlights his production and recording skills, weaving multiple genres into a cohesive 13-track journey. To celebrate the release, Haines will perform at several live events worldwide, including a special performance at London’s Jazz Cafe on August 7 and a release show in Auckland, New Zealand, on November 2.
