meka Releases ‘Tomato Song’ Ahead of Upcoming Album The Rabbit

American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist meka (Melissa Lingo) shares her latest single, Tomato Song, ahead of her debut album The Rabbit, set for release on May 21, 2025, via Dumont Dumont. Known for her introspective songwriting and rich folk-inspired sound, meka blends elements of 60s and 70s folk with a contemporary approach, drawing comparisons to Joan Baez, Vashti Bunyan, and Nick Drake.

Led by delicate piano, gently brushed drums, and intricate finger-picked guitar, Tomato Song captures meka’s ability to craft evocative soundscapes. The song’s arrangement gradually unfolds, intertwining nostalgic folk textures with layered vocals that add depth and warmth. The production, handled by Daniel Bengtson at Rymden Studios in Stockholm, enhances the track’s organic and immersive quality.

Beneath its pastoral imagery, Tomato Song carries a reflective, existential undertone. The lyrics paint a scene of quiet moments in a garden, merging memories, dreams, and introspection. meka describes the song as an “ode to the in-between,” where life, dreams, and nightmares blur. Inspired by her mother’s habit of sleeping in the garden to protect her crops, the track weaves personal recollections with broader themes of time, loss, and hope.

Tomato Song follows the previously released Temperance, another glimpse into The Rabbit, which will explore themes of grief, nostalgia, and nature. Having spent years living across the world—from the mountains of California to Brazil, India, Cambodia, and Europe—meka’s songwriting reflects a deep connection to both personal experience and the wider world.
