James Tristan Redding’s latest offering, “Planting The Seeds,” is a poignant ballad that tells the story of a farmer raising his grandchildren, passing down the knowledge of farming and the love for the land. The song captures the beauty and heartache of life, as the farmer eventually succumbs to natural causes. It’s a bittersweet and meditative piece that touches the soul.
“Planting The Seeds” is written and recorded by the talented singer-songwriter James Tristan Redding, who took a leap of faith by leaving behind a career in a New York investment bank to pursue his passion in Music City. Surprisingly, his new album, Look Out World, which features this captivating ballad, stands out as possibly the least Nashville-sounding album of 2023. Redding’s unique style and heartfelt storytelling defy expectations and create a refreshing listening experience.
The journey to create this album was not an easy one for James Tristan Redding. Amidst the writing and recording process of the ten songs on Look Out World, he faced numerous challenges, including panic attacks, Lyme disease, Covid, salmonella, a break-up, and even an IRS audit. Despite these hardships, Redding poured his heart and soul into the music, resulting in a collection of songs that resonate with authenticity and vulnerability.
The recording of “Planting The Seeds” alone took more than 200 hours, carried out in a modest one-bedroom apartment in East Nashville, with equipment worth approximately $1500. Such dedication and resourcefulness speak to Redding’s commitment to his craft and his willingness to create art under any circumstances.
James Tristan Redding’s artistic journey is a testament to his multifaceted talent. Beyond being a skilled songwriter and singer, he is also an audiobook narrator, studio musician, and an official artist for Godin Guitars. Redding’s contributions extend beyond his own music, as he founded Song A Week, an international writing collective, and curated The Under Over, an urban performance art experience. Additionally, he organises the Nashville 24 songwriting retreat, which attracts musicians from around the world to create 24 songs in just 24 hours.
