Blues rock outfit R.J. Archer & the Painful Memories return with their lively new single Get It Together, recorded in July 2024 at Half Ton Studio in Cambridge. The track is the third single from their upcoming album The Cost of Loving Crisis, and showcases the band’s energetic and engaging sound, full of life and capturing the spirit of the blues. With driving rhythms, soulful vocals, and rich production, Get It Together maintains the band’s signature blues-rock vibe, enhanced by Naomi Randall’s expert production and mixing.
Formed in 2019, R.J. Archer & the Painful Memories are inspired by the blues-influenced rock of the 1960s and 1970s. Initially a temporary project, the band became a permanent fixture when Richard Archer (guitar, vocals), Roger James (bass), and Ben Kingsbury (drums) teamed up to record what would later become their debut album Hot Mess (2021). Since then, the band has earned critical praise for their fusion of classic R&B with a contemporary edge, and their energetic live performances at venues like the Cambridge Salty Dog Blues Festival and Six Six Bar.
Their follow-up album Horseplay! (2023) further solidified their reputation, drawing comparisons to legendary acts like MC5, Grand Funk Railroad, and Dr. Feelgood. With The Cost of Loving Crisis set for release later this year, the band, now expanded to a four-piece with Marc Ritchie on drums and Ben Kingsbury moving to second guitar, is showing no signs of slowing down. Get It Together is a taste of the vibrant, bluesy rock to come.
