The Animal Objective, an Anglo-French art-rock group led by British musician and graphic artist Tim Naish, offers an intriguing blend of psychedelia, blues, and alt-rock in their track Sublime. Taken from their debut EP, Creature Law, the song showcases the band’s knack for creating abstract yet engaging grooves.
Sublime opens with a swirling, bluesy riff infused with atonal accents that lend it a slightly abstract edge. The dynamic shifts are a key feature, moving from a driving, syncopated groove reminiscent of early Gong, to a sedate interlude before snapping back to its initial pulse. The syncopation and rhythmic play call to mind influences like Ian Dury & the Blockheads, all wrapped in the band’s distinctive art-rock aesthetic.
The Animal Objective began as Naish’s solo project before evolving into a four-piece band in 2019, with Sylvie Pichard (bass), Tonyo Chauveau (drums), and Jojo Pannier (guitar) joining the lineup. Rooted in Naish’s surreal, visual-arts-inspired approach to music, the group creates soundscapes that blur the boundaries between the organic and the experimental.
Released in October 2024, the Creature Law EP presents five tracks that traverse angular grooves, hypnotic melodies, and eccentric storytelling.
