Italian alternative rock-blues outfit Total Reverends return with Love & Pain, a high-energy track that blends raw blues influences with a driving groove and an electrifying build-up. This marks the band’s second single in two months, with a new release planned every month leading up to their full album release, which will also be available on vinyl before summer.
Love & Pain channels the gritty, modern blues-rock sound of bands like The Black Keys, The White Stripes, and Queens of the Stone Age. The track kicks off with a blues-infused guitar riff, soon mirrored by a powerful rhythm section that gives it momentum. As the song progresses, it gains intensity, leading to a climactic finale that showcases the band’s dynamic energy.
The lyrics draw inspiration from the spirituals tradition, addressing a higher power while reflecting on a life lived intensely—spreading both love and pain along the way, burning brightly like a comet and leaving a lasting impact on those it touches. This theme is amplified by the commanding vocal presence of international artist Ilaria Graziano, whose performance adds depth and emotion to the track.
Total Reverends began as an unconventional project, formed for what was initially a one-off performance in Rome. The band has since evolved into a flexible collective, featuring a core trio alongside a rotating lineup of guest musicians—each adopting a symbolic clerical name. The current lineup includes:
- Francesco Forni (Father Terno) – Guitar and vocals
- Piero Monterisi (Monsignor Terisi) – Drums
- Gabriele Lazzarotti (Father Rosario Doson) – Bass (in trio formation)
Their upcoming album will feature collaborations with artists including Violante Placido, Roberto Dell’Era, Tommaso Di Giulio, Rodrigo D’Erasmo, and Johnny Dal Basso.
With Love & Pain, Total Reverends deliver a potent mix of blues-rock energy and introspective storytelling, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting series of releases in the months ahead.
